Event Services - Rules & Regulations
This section has been created to help familiarize you with the operational aspects of our facility. Here you will find helpful information Labor Rules, Fire Regulations and Facility Regulations.
Labor Rules
Navy Pier enjoys its fine reputation as a world class exhibit facility due to the skills, experience and hard work that the Chicago Unions provide. Tradesmen who work for Navy Pier and the General Service Contractor for the event understand what you need to accomplish and are willing to help you get there!
A general overview of the trades that work at Navy Pier along with their jurisdictions can be reviewed in the Union Labor Rules.
We are proud of the initiatives that Labor has supported which have resulted in cost savings for exhibitors. "Making it Easier for Our Customers" will review a few of these initiatives.
Facility Regulations
The Facility Regulations section will provide you with building guidelines that will assist you in planning your event.

Fire & Safety Regulations
The fire prevention and safety regulations enforced at Navy Pier are taken from the Chicago Fire Prevention Code, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Navy Pier Operations Department. The McCormick Place Fire Marshal's Office and the Chicago Fire Department Bureau of Fire Prevention reserve the right to make any final decisions regarding the outlined requirements, according to Section 12-20 of the Municipal Code of Chicago on Fire Prevention.
Prior to the show opening, the Fire Marshal may inspect the booths to ensure these requirements are met. If they are not, adjustments can be costly, and if a booth imposes a significant fire hazard, it will be prohibited from exhibiting.
