The oldest of the three Norwegian Tall Ships, Sørlandet is also the oldest full rigged ship in the world still in operation. Sørlandet formerly was a school ship and is currently on hire to the Canadian sail training institution Class Afloat. Its mission is to help broaden student understanding of international issues while preparing them for responsible global citizenship in the 21st century. Students spend one semester at the land-based boarding school and one semester working as crew and studying aboard the ship.
