Before You Visit | Navy Pier

August 27, 2012

Summer may be winding down, but the activity at Navy Pier sure isn’t! Chicago’s favorite lakefront playground is open seven days a week and already has a packed calendar of events for the month of September.

Before stopping by the Pier, here are a few things you should know:

Navy Pier is open year-round, but hours do change seasonally. Navy Pier’s website is the best spot to keep up-to-date on all changes in hours. Looking for a place to celebrate the long Labor Day Weekend? Stop by the Pier which offers special extended hours on Sunday, September 2, and is open on Labor Day too!

Navy Pier may be a big place to explore, but it’s easy to get a lay of the land. offers two different, easy-to-use maps— one interactive, the other printable— giving guests the opportunity to plot out their perfect itinerary and minimizing time spent wandering to find a bathroom and on questions like, “Now, where is the Haagen-Dasz?”

Admission Fee?

No! Admission to Navy Pier is completely free, and if you’re looking for some of the prettiest sights of the downtown Chicago skyline, the view can’t be beat from the Pier! It’s good to keep in mind that many of Navy Pier’s attractions do require separate ticket fees, but you’ll probably want to bring along some extra pocket money anyway because one ride on the high-flying Wave Swinger is never enough.  If you’re looking to save yourself a little time in line, you can always purchase tickets online for many of Navy Pier’s attractions.

There’s a little something for everyone at Navy Pier, from special events to regular attractions like the Chicago-themed mini golf course that will please even the biggest golf aficionado, the one-of-a-kind Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows, and high drama at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. For a complete listing of everything going on in the upcoming months, visit Navy Pier’s Calendar of Events.
