Every February we celebrate the achievements of African Americans in U.S. history. Since 1976, February has been designated Black History Month. This year, the theme of the month-long celebration is Civil Rights in America and the timing couldn’t be better with 2014 being the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Spirit of Chicago is commemorating this event with lunch cruises on Chicago’s breathtaking Lake Michigan. The cruise will feature various points of Chicago history focusing on African-American music and popular entertainers, politics, sports, culture, and more! During the February 22nd Black History Month Lunch Cruises, guests will hear live performances featuring the music of Buddy Guy, Nat King Cole, Jennifer Hudson, and more. There will also be a brief narrative about Chicago black history and a DJ set filled with famous songs.
Aboard the cruise, you will be given the opportunity to have a keepsake photo taken of you and your party, which you have the option of purchasing. While cruising along Chicago’s magnificent lakefront, guests will be served the Grande Lunch Buffet where you are welcome to eat to your stomach’s content (seconds and thirds are welcome)!
After you dine, you can “ooh” and “ahh” as you stretch your legs and take in the history along with the amazing views. You will also enjoy shared seating which gives you a chance to get to know other guests and celebrate Black History Month with everyone on board!
This cruise departs from Navy Pier, boarding begins at 11:30 a.m., and the cruise is from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. The ticket price is $51.90 for adults and $31.95 for children under the age of 12.
Don’t miss this awesome opportunity to celebrate such an important part of U.S. and Chicago history! Hope to see you cruising!
