Over 75 productions, 63 theaters, six days, and one city. Did you do the math correctly? If so, then you know that these numbers add up to the anticipated Chicago Theatre Week, a week dedicated to celebrating the world-class theater companies here in Chicago.
Move over New York City! Chicago’s the REAL “theater capital of the world” and between February 12 and 17, multiple theaters will honor the title by putting on discounted productions across the city. Tickets range from $15 to $30, and they’re already on sale so you’d better buy soon if you want to get in on the fun!
Here at Navy Pier, we’re also celebrating the week. Our own Chicago Shakespeare Theater is offering discounted tickets to Julius Caesar, a terrific, contemporary production directed by Jonathan Munby. Julius Caesar tells the tragic story of Caesar’s rise to glory as a great Roman general and infamous fall at the Senate on the Ides of March. If you can’t make it to any of our special Chicago Theater Week shows, don’t fret! Julius Caesar runs through the end of March, which should give you plenty of time to buy those tickets.
And in addition to Julius Caesar, Cadre will be making its world premiere at CST this week! This brand new play by Omphile Molusi serves to honor the memory of the 21,000 people who lost their lives during South Africa’s Apartheid and the activists who spoke out. Cadre only runs from February 15-23 before it leaves for the next leg of its tour in Johannesburg, so make sure you buy your tickets early to ensure you don’t miss out!
If you’re planning on traveling to the city just for Chicago Theatre Week, we would love to give you with the ultimate “dinner and a show” experience. Enjoy a delicious meal at the popular Billy Goat Tavern or Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. before experiencing the works of Shakespeare or Molusi.
There’s no better way to experience the “theater capital of the world” than right here at the Pier!
