Charna Halpern at Four Star Comedy Fest | Navy Pier

September 30, 2012

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Navy Pier’s brand new Four Star Comedy Fest on October 6 is going to be quite the comedy event! The entire day is chock-full of great acts and big names.

And, we’ve got another big announcement for all you improv fans! We’ve been talking up Jimmy Carrane’s absolutely hilarious podcast show, Improv Nerd, in which he interviews a special comedy guest to enlighten audiences about careers in the comedy industry, as well as provide a ton of laughs. Well, we’re finally ready to reveal the identity of Jimmy Carrane’s comedy legend guest.

Drumroll please … It’s none other than the founder of iO Chicago Theater, Charna Halpern!

Charna is a household name in the comedy world. Not only did this native Chicagoan hone her skills by co-founding and instructing at the famous ImprovOlympic Theaters in Chicago and Hollywood, but she’s also discovered some of the world’s biggest comedy names: Mike Myers, Chris Farley, David Koechner, Adam McKay and Tina Fey, just to name a few.  And to top it off, she’s also an author; her name graces the cover of three different improv comedy manuals, Truth in Comedy, Group Improvisation, and Art by Committee.

Charna has been a major player in the comedy world for the past 25 years, which makes her visit to Navy Pier’s Four Star Comedy Fest that much more special. And, as Jimmy Carrane says it best himself, “I think audiences are going to be fascinated with the anecdotes and history she’ll be able to give about so many celebrities.” We agree!

Jimmy Carrane’s Improv Nerd podcast will begin taping at 5 p.m. on October 6 and did we mention that tickets are free?!?

Plus, this is only one of many great events taking place on the day of the Comedy Fest. Improv comedy workshops will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. that afternoon, including a few sessions led by iO! And we’ve got a great lineup of performers that night, headlined by SNL alum Tim Meadows and his improv troupe, Uncle’s Brother.

Reserve your tickets today!
