The 2013 Chicago Flower & Garden Show | Navy Pier

March 6, 2013

Whoever coined the term “April showers bring May flowers,” never heard of the Chicago Flower & Garden Show. Why wait until May to see flowers when they’re blooming right here at the Pier in early March!?

Between March 9 and March 17, Navy Pier will open its doors to the Chicago Flower & Garden Show and to garden lovers of all kinds. This year’s theme, “The Art of Gardening,” was created to inspire viewers of the show to look at gardening as an art rather than a task, and with beautiful blooms filling approximately 25 featured gardens, it’s easy to see gardening as far more than a spring and summer chore.

Along with the gardens, the Chicago Flower & Garden Show will host multiple seminars throughout the week to educate visitors on topics including landscaping, planting techniques, and organic gardening. More than 100 vendors will be attending the event, providing products for gardening, landscaping, and horticulture. The show will even host the Chicago Area Retail Baker’s Association Cake Decorating Competition on Saturday, March 17!

One of the more popular events of the show is the “Evening in Bloom,” which is held on Friday, March 8 this year. From 6 to 9:30 p.m, fine wines, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and sweet treats will be served as guests preview the featured gardens.

To entertain the kids, the Chicago Flower & Garden Show will have multiple fun-filled green activities. Last year the activities were run by organizations including Girl Scouts of America, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Shedd Aquarium and included arts and crafts and gardening, of course.

Chicago Flower & Garden Show tickets cost $17 for weekdays and $19 for weekends. Buy online and save $2! And children between the ages of 4-12 only cost $5! Save even more with our seasonal parking rates when you park in the Navy Pier Parking Garage!

Come make a day of it at the Pier with your family as you get ready for the colorful season ahead! With so much going on at Navy Pier right now, why would you wait for May anyway?
