Cinco de Mayo at the Pier!

Cinco de Mayo at the Pier!

May 3, 2013

Chicago loves a good party and ever since St. Patty’s Day we’ve been looking forward to the next big bash. All we’ve got to say is thank goodness for Cinco de Mayo! This annual celebration commemorates Mexican heritage and pride, and just like St. Patty’s Day, no one is excluded from the festivities!

Like any good celebration, Cinco de Mayo means great music, dancing, food, and of course drinks for those of age. At Navy Pier, we have numerous restaurant options that will definitely fit the bill this Cinco de Mayo. From seafood to traditional bar fare, nothing is unaccounted for on the Pier.

Harry Caray’s Tavern is one of Chicago’s favorite drinking holes. While the menu may lean towards traditional American cuisine, the wide selection of martinis, specialty cocktails, bottled and draft beer, and wine will suit you well in your search for good times. On this special occasion, we recommend the Slim Margarita (Herradura Silver Tequila, agave nectar, fresh lime juice, and club soda with a lime wedge) and the Cocojito (Bacardi Rock Coconut Rum, muddled lime and mint, fresh lime juice, and club soda with coconut shavings).

If you prefer sipping wine as opposed to tequila, Riva Crab House is one of your best bets. With a view of the lake that’s unforgettable, Riva has one of the widest wine selections from Zinfandels and Italian reds to Merlots and Pinot Noirs. The dinner menu includes amazing house specials such as the Saffron Tagliorini (shrimp, clams, mussels, andouille, sweet & hot peppers, and cajun cream), which would pair well with almost anything you may be drinking.

Last but certainly not least, no Cinco de Mayo is complete without a trip to Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville! From the Last Mango in Paris to the Uptown Margarita, Margaritaville has no shortage of amazing tequila-based drinks. Don’t think they don’t have you covered on the beer menu too. Order up a Landshark Lager or a Corona with a lime wedge and you’ll be feeling the tropical vibes.

Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone, and be sure to drink responsibly this Sunday!
