Danger 101 at Chicago Children's Museum

danger-101Let us guess: it’s two weeks into summer vacation and you have exhausted all your (undoubtedly) brilliant ideas for keeping the kids entertained?  Well hold on to your sanity, because we’ve discovered the perfect way to satisfy your stir-crazy bunch.  This summer the Chicago Children’s Museum presents Danger 101: Daring Deeds for Curious Kids!

Inspired by the work of Gever Tulley, founder of the Tinkering School and author of 50 Dangerous Things You Should Let Your Kids Do, this brand-new experience offers kids and adults alike the opportunity to explore danger and risk in a safe and controlled environment.  From now through July 31, children are encouraged to “unleash their inner daredevils” by working with heat, flight, weight, and best of all, a whole bunch of power tools!

Truly, Danger 101 has something for everyone.  Aspiring visual effects artist? Every day during the month of June, you can discover what happens when you heat things up with “Sizzle and Kaboom!”  Wannabe pilot?  “Fling It!” will show you how to make stuff fly daily at 11:30 a.m. throughout July.  Lest we forget ambitious industrialists! Learn how to properly use a hammer, drill and saw – what you can build will amaze you.

Or perhaps you’d prefer to find adventure in cuisine?  Stop by the Daredevil Café where the chef’s choice of outrageous and daring delights changes daily.

While you’re here, be sure not to miss the pièce de résistance, known as the “Human Wrecking Ball.”  Audacious trailblazers can mount a 30-foot-long rope, swing across and smack down a mountain of materials. Who doesn’t want to bust through a wall like the Hulk?
