How to Rock the Pier: The Ultimate Guide to an Extreme Day at Navy Pier!

August 31, 2011

Here are some mega tips for Navy Pier visitors that will ensure an entire day full of fun and exciting activities in Chicago, and perhaps a drink… or three. Ready, set, Pier!

Odds are you’ve been walking around or taking public transportation to find activities in Chicago and at Navy Pier, so you and your friends have probably worked up an appetite or at least a craving for a cold beer!

Navy Pier Beer Garden

The perfect place to refresh and refuel is Navy Pier’s Landshark Beer Garden – located almost one mile out into beautiful Lake Michigan in a tree-filled alcove. It’s one of Chicago’s most idyllic outdoor venues to enjoy live music, great food and drinks, meet people and view spectacular fireworks.

The Landshark Beer Garden offers breath-taking views of Chicago’s magnificent skyline plus free concerts that feature hot local bands, successful recording artists and Grammy award nominees.  Plus, there’s never a cover charge!

Grab a quick bite at two concession stands offering pizza, chicken fingers, fries and delicious Landshark beer-soaked brats. Check out the drink specials on a variety of mixed cocktails, beers and other refreshments!

The Beer Garden is the perfect place to include on your list of “must experience things-to-do” this summer in Chicago.

Navy Pier Ferris Wheel

After you check the Beer Garden off of your list, the next fun activity is to convince that friend of yours, who’s afraid of heights, to conquer their fear by taking a spin on Navy Pier’s iconic Ferris Wheel. It may seem intimidating at first standing at 150 feet or nearly 15 stories high, but once you get up there and see the incredible view of the city, it will all be worth it!

Navy Pier Seadog Boat Cruise

Next, it’s time for an adrenaline-pumping ride on one of four Seadogs  for a thrilling 30 minute speedboat ride on Lake Michigan or a fascinating as 75 minute guided architectural tour on the Chicago River. One of most exhilarating activities tin Chicago takes place on the new Seadog Extreme, a speedboat that takes you around twists and turns 30 percent faster than any other boat ride around!

As your adrenaline wears off, stop by the Crystal Gardens for a serene photo op set amongst full-size palm trees, dancing ‘leap-frog’ fountains and exotic flowers. This glass-enclosed atrium offers a calming green environment in which to cool down for a moment.

Navy Pier IMAX Theatre

If you checked out all all of the activities in Chicago, just wait…the Navy Pier IMAX Theatre features to regroup and relax while taking in an exciting 3D feature film.

Margaritaville at Navy Pier Chicago

Ready for Round 2? Dance your way into Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, the newest bar & restaurant on the Pier, and order up one of his famous ‘Cheeseburgers in Paradise’ or one of the many other themed selections from the tasty menu. Your choice of fresh made cocktails and delicious frozen concoctions like ‘Skinny Margarita’ will have you swaying away to the sounds of Jimmy’s classic island tunes…you’ll be a Buffet fan in no time!

Now that you’re in the groove, cap off your fun-filled day of activities in Chicago by heading straight back to the Landshark Beer Garden  to sample the evening’s entertainment and have a few more Landshark beers. Check out the schedule and see what bands are playing every weekend through mid-September, and bring your friends back for an extremely rockin’ good time!
