The lobsters have been preparing for months, but are you ready for The Great American Lobster Fest? Navy Pier will be hosting The Great American Lobster Fest this weekend, August 16-17, and it will be an event unlike any other! As Chicago’s first outdoor lobster fest, the festival will provide attendees with fresh lobster flown in daily from Boston’s New England Seafood Company, buckets of butter, music, and fun! You can still purchase tickets for The Great American Lobster Fest either at the event itself, or beforehand at Navy Pier.
What can you expect for the weekend? Lobster. A lot of it. You’ll eat lobsters prepared in countless ways—rolls, bisque, whole, tacos, and with mac & cheese. Not into seafood? That’s okay! Other “landfood” options include French fries, corn on the cob, sandwiches, nachos, chicken tenders, hot dogs, funnel cake, and ice cream.
And even if you don’t eat lobster, you can watch others stuff their faces at the Lobster Hero Challenge. This eating competition will challenge teams to eat 30 pounds of whole lobster in only one hour. Teams that do so will walk away with pride, glory, T-shirts as proof of their participation, and very full bellies.
What festival is complete without entertainment? The Great American Lobster Fest will host vendors and carnival games for the whole family to explore. Lobster-eaters everywhere can sit back and watch the jets fly overhead during the Chicago Air & Water Show as well as the spectacular 10:15 p.m. Saturday fireworks display. Listen to live music throughout the whole weekend, both in the Grand Ballroom and Outdoor Stage (see schedule below).
A portion of the proceeds from the weekend will go to Mr. Bones and Co., a non-profit committed to supporting animal rescue and advocacy. Get your tickets, support a great cause and bring on the sun! We can’t wait to share a plate of lobster with you at Navy Pier this weekend.
