This past weekend my boyfriend and I headed down to Navy Pier in search of something new to do. I knew that there was an array of attractions at the Pier—I mean who could ever forget that gorgeous Ferris wheel— but I didn’t truly realize how many great restaurants were lining the Pier. After a day of indulging our “inner child” with rides galore, mid-afternoon ice cream cones, and a trip through Amazing Chicago’s Funhouse Maze, we were left to make that hardest of all decisions: where to eat dinner.
If we wanted to go more casual, there was the Billy Goat Tavern with its infamous “cheezborgers” or Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Bar & Grill, and it’s always been really hard for me to turn down a well-made margarita.
If we felt like seafood or steakhouse fare or a fabulous Italian dinner, there were spots for all of that too! I’d heard about Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.’s legendary Shrimp Scampi as well as the top-notch steaks at Riva Crab House and who wouldn’t like a gooey wood-stone pizza from Capi’s Italian Kitchen?
I didn’t know which to pick until I saw the way my boyfriend’s eyes lit up after he saw the menu, the many HDTVs, and the sports memorabilia covering the walls at Harry Caray’s Tavern.
We had a wonderful dinner at Harry Caray’s complete with the best plate of nachos I’ve ever tasted and now that I know about all of the restaurants at the Pier and know that they stay open late for diners like me, I’m already planning my next visit. I can’t wait to come back and give them all a try!
