New Futuro 2012 Summit | Navy Pier

November 2, 2012

Next fall I am sending my oldest child off to college. I’ve been worrying about it for a while and not just because I’m a mom who’s really going to miss her kid, but because I don’t know how we’re going to afford it. Besides that, while the college counselors at my daughter’s school are as helpful as they can be with a graduating class of 1,000 students, it’s almost impossible for my husband and I to get the personalized help we need.

I’ve been looking for online resources, especially different financial aid and scholarship opportunities for Latinos, and came across Navy Pier’s site. On November 10, they’re hosting a College Prep Fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Navy Pier’s Festival Hall B and the best part is that they’ve partnered up with New Futuro, a company who focuses on helping Latino families send their children off to college!

The event looks great—not only will there be hundreds of university and college representatives at the fair, but the representatives will be bilingual, a necessary thing for many families! Latino professionals will also be on hand to answer questions and share advice. And, to top the day off, every guest will receive a free copy of New Futuro’s 10 Step College Plan with ten easy to follow steps on how to prepare, apply, and pay for college.

Registration is free and can be completed online—I just registered my family for the day and discovered that there will be a drawing on the day of the fair for prizes like an iPad! And there’s the opportunity to win thousands of dollars in college scholarships!

I’m really looking forward to the College Prep Fair on November 10. It’s a huge relief to know I’ll soon get my answers questioned and finally feel confident that my family is headed in the right direction.
