Shop at the Pier!

December 14, 2012

Every year I try and begin my holiday shopping early because there’s nothing worse than knowing Christmas is a week away and you still have a bunch of people to check off your list.

But even though I start looking early doesn’t mean I start buying early. It’s so hard to find meaningful gifts these days and I’m really not all about the latest gizmos and gadgets.

Last weekend I took the kids to the big Winter WonderFest celebration at Navy Pier and that’s when it hit me! I could do all my shopping at the Pier!

I returned a few days later, parked the car (you can’t beat $14 parking in the city!), and hit the shops! From my last visit, I knew there were plenty of toys and games that my kids would love from the Children’s Museum Gift Shop, but decided to do a little more exploring before heading straight there.

I ended up at The Best Gift Idea Ever store first—great name, right? You know those really cool pictures that spell out words using the letters from well-known signs? The Best Gift Idea Ever sells them readymade or makes them custom! I ordered one for my daughter’s room with her name on it.

Next, I stopped at Y-Knot, a great novelty tie shop, and picked up a couple fun ties for the hubby. My philosophy is a man can never have enough ties! And of course I made a stop at The Sports Store where I bought the family matching Bears shirts and a Bears hat for my son!

I spent hours exploring all the shops at Navy Pier and the best part of it was that I didn’t feel rushed or stressed out! I was able to find plenty of little trinkets to put in the stockings, some presents for the dog, and great gifts for my nieces and nephews and my kids’ teachers: who doesn’t love Garrett Popcorn or Ryba’s Fudge?

Eventually I made my way back to the Children’s Museum Gift Shop and bought a few things my kids had begged for during their last visit and then it was time to head home. I was tired and seriously laden down with presents, but amazingly enough, I’d gotten almost everything on my list. Thank you, Navy Pier!
