Special Events at Strictly Sail 2013 | Navy Pier

January 23, 2013

Ahoy there mateys! A new show has docked in town and it’s celebrating all things nautical!

Opening tomorrow in Navy Pier’s Festival Hall, the Strictly Sail Chicago Boat Show is four days full of exhibits, seminars, and giveaways from premier international boating companies and industry specialists!

From January 24-27, visitors will have the chance to check out the wares of over 250 boating exhibitors, and when we say wares we mean everything from sailboats to canoes from world-renowned makers like Catalina Yachts to sailing and outdoor gear (think fishing poles, boat parts, and floating docks) to charter companies looking to give you a deal on your next summer cruise around Lake Michigan.

There’s even some free advice tucked away into that ticket! Free seminars will be held hourly during each of the four days on a huge variety of topics! Learn what to do when there’s an emergency on board, how to navigate by the stars, rigging tips and tricks, and all about one man’s philosophical journey as a sailor. Are you a history buff? There’s a seminar about sailing and the War of 1812! In the mood for something a little more tropical? Drool over seminars on cruising the Florida Keys or the South Pacific from Panama to New Zealand.

Attendees can even sign up to attend a paid, longer-form seminar on a specialized topic like Marine Meteorology or how the newest changes to racing rules will affect your race. Information about the weekend’s seminars can be found here.

Strictly Sail Chicago visitors will have the chance to enter a number of giveaways during the show. Enter for your chance to win a week-long vacation in the British Virgin Islands or a yacht charter vacation to fabulous Martinique. Or sign up to win a sailboat, paddle board, or 30 days of unlimited sailing lessons. All giveaway information is listed here.

The Boat Show isn’t just for adults either. Kids will love the boat building and coloring area and there’ll even be a remote control sailing pond on hand, the perfect place to challenge the rest of the family to a race!
