Holy cow, Harry Caray’s fans, we know it’s hard to believe, but fifteen years ago we lost one of Chicago’s favorite personalities and hands down the best baseball broadcaster this city’s ever seen! But just because the legend’s gone doesn’t mean our very fond memories of him are too. We’re ready to raise our glasses once again to the amazing Harry Caray, and so are fans all across the globe.
February 28, 2013 has been declared the 15th Annual Worldwide Toast to Harry Caray. And because Harry always considered himself a Cubs fan, first and foremost, this year’s toasting theme is The Year of the Fan!
So if you’re in town, head to Harry Caray’s Tavern on Navy Pier, this year’s host of the Toast, for an afternoon and evening full of activities.
WLS AM Radio’s Roe and Roeper Show will be on hand for a live broadcast from 4-6 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., we’ll officially toast the man of the hour with celebrities like “Mr. Cub” Ernie Banks, Tom Ricketts, Billy Corgan, and the beloved Dutchie Caray. And it wouldn’t be a real Navy Pier celebration without a big fireworks display to conclude the Toast! Come by at 6 p.m. to watch the fireworks show and don a special pair of hologram glasses to see the fireworks turn into thousands of Harry Caray faces!
If you can’t make it down to Harry Caray’s Tavern for the official Toast, check out www.facebook.com/ToastToHarry to find other Toast locations or simply raise a glass of Budweiser or your drink of choice at 5:30 p.m. on February 28. And make sure you tweet about it and use hashtag #ToastToHarry!
So get February 28 on your calendar, stock up on those brewskies, and get ready to toast the man who’s the biggest Cubs fan of all!
